Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar is an American and British sitar artist. She was also the very first and youngest female to win an award from the British House of Commons Award. Anoushka shankar is one of India's rising stars in the sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's pupil and is also his daughter of Ravi Shankar. She was born in 1982 in London. Her early years included a period of time in London as well as New Delhi. Her debut performance was in New Delhi when she was thirteen years old. At the age of 13, she finished her high school education at Encinitas CA. Anouskha is still a young woman, but she has a very impressive career in music and performance. She regularly accompanies her father during performances, something she has been doing for several years. In 1998, she debuted Anourag as her debut single album. She released the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years following. As she's appeared on every major stage in the world, her performance career has been extensive. Anoushka isn't only a singer. She released Bapi the Heart of My Life, in the year 2002. The book is a biography that pays tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. Also, she appeared in movie in 2003. The role she played was that of a Bharat Natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka continues to grow in her career and will surely be new things that will be coming from this amazing woman. Anoushka was raised in England, but spent most of her youth split between London in the UK and Delhi. Then she moved to California and enrolled in the high school there. at the age of nine she began her studies in music with her father. The first time she performed on the Sitar was during her birthday celebrations for her 75th birthday in Delhi, four years after. As a part of her dad's band as he toured the world Anoushka had a wealth of performances at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens. She performed at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival, and also recording together with George Harrison. The youngest female to be awarded the House of Commons Shield, given by the British Parliament to recognize her talent and musicianship within music and the Asian Arts.
